New York Post Meets Palestra.net
2008-11-09 15:23:55
Last week I had the opportunity of a lifetime, I got to report for the New York Post. I was not covering the Colts or Pacers, which would be in my comfort zone. I was covering a federal trial in Indianapolis. I got this wonderful opportunity through palestra.net, thanks to Dave Maetzold and John Tsarouchas. My job was to sit in the federal trial involving a New York woman who scammed fortune 500 companies and take notes for the NY Post. Once I was done in the courtroom I would report back to the NY Post and give them my notes. It was very intimidating walking into the courthouse, let alone a federal courtroom. It was not at all what I expected. I thought there would be a lot of people in the courtroom and there was not. The family of the defendant and a few other courthouse employees were in the room and me. This was such a great experience because I had to cover a story I knew very little about and cover a huge news story that I am not used to covering. I think this will make me a lot more diverse when I begin applying for jobs this winter. I also look forward to working with the NY Post in the future if they ever need anything covered in Indiana. A special thanks to Jeane MacIntosh from the NY Post who walked me through exactly what I needed to do. She has a lot of experience covering news stories like this and was so kind to me and helpful, thank you again. Also thanks to Lukas Alpert who wrote the story with the notes I gave him from the trial. Thank you Palestra.net and thank you New York Post for this opportunity.

Crean And Crimson
2008-10-18 21:25:40
Last night at Hoosier Hysteria, the new IU Men's Basketball coach Tom Crean greeted fans, signed autographs and took many photos before the Hoosiers took the court. Every time I've had the chance to hear Coach Crean speak, its moving, its sincere and amazing. When I was a freshman at IU the late football coach Terry Hoeppner was just beginning his journey as head coach at IU. I will never forget thinking that this man was amazing, he brought so much enthusiasm to IU football and made me a true believer in the team and still to this day I am very attached to my Crimson Crew t-shirts that say "Coach Hep Got Me." The point of the story is, when I was just starting at IU there was this coach with energy and passion leading our Hoosiers on the football field and I feel that exact same energy and passion from Coach Crean. This is exactly what the IU program needed and there is only good that lies in the future for the Hoosiers, or at least we can hope. So welcome to Coach Crean, welcome to the new players and let basketball season begin in B-town.
