Roadtrip to Hokie Nation
2008-09-07 21:21:30
Don't get me wrong: I'm a Tar Heel born and a Tar Heel bred. But could I honestly pass up the chance to go to a Virginia Tech football game?
Of course, after last week's ECU upset, I was a bit nervous for this weekend's Hokie-Paladin showdown. Luckily, VT managed to walk away from Lane Stadium with a big fat "W."
The first half was unnervingly slow. Virginia Tech edged Furman by a mere field goal when the boys retreated to the locker rooms at halftime. Whatever VT Coach Beamer said to his players at half definitely had an impact: the Hokies scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. Furman squeezed one touchdown in at the end of the game, but there just wasn't enough time for redemption.
Thankfully, Virginia Tech's recent quarterback drama didn't hurt its chance at winning. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor (whose redshirt was lifted earlier this week) split time with senior Sean Glennon for most of the game. Hokie fans were noticeably upset with Glennon's second-quarter intercepted pass--the ongoing "Tyrod Taylor" chant taunted Glennon from all sides of Lane Stadium whenever he took the field.
Side note: Hokie fans had a "White-out" this weekend, in which every fan wore a white t-shirt. If this respresented the hope for redemption after ECU, it was successful.
I'll be following the Hokies through my blog this season, but check out my videos for Tar Heel coverage. We can't forget about Butch Davis and the Carolina Boys!
