    Reflections and Expectations

A Super Happy New Year to everyone! :) :)

Just sitting here at home with my parents watching the Rose Bowl with Penn State and USC. I hear that the Pac-10 is undefeated in all of their bowls this season and that just is another reminder of BYU's blunder against Arizona in the Las Vegas Bowl...... :(

I know that BYU was the better team, even statistically, it was just them that made the stupid mistakes and turnovers. Arizona was good enough to capitalize on those mistakes and ended up taking home the win.

I love BYU and its sports, but I look forward to the day when the football team will finally live up to the expectations that so many fans have going into seasons like the one that is about to end. Even I had expectations and hope that the Cougars would go undefeated and go to a BCS bowl game.

At the time BYU lost their first game, they were in the top ten in the nation, but they got destroyed by TCU. Even then, the season could have been salvaged and they would have finished 11-1, beat Utah and still could have ended up in a BCS bowl. But alas, just like the team self-destructed in the second half against Utah and blew that game, they did the same thing in the Vegas Bowl against Arizona.

If they could just live up to their potential and skill, they would roll through competition and be among the top teams in college football year in and year out. They have 32 wins and only 7 losses in the last three years, which is one of the best records in college football over the last three years and quite impressive, but they could be so much more and that is what is frustrating.

They need to step it up next season especially with games against Florida State, Arizona State, Utah (of course,) and possibly Oklahoma, which could make or break the season. They have a great core remaining with Max Hall, Harvey Unga, Dennis Pitta, Austin Collie(the nation's top receiver, by the way,) and Jan Jorgensen, and others returning from church missions including wideout McKay Jacobson!

As always, expectations will be high and the competition will be tough, the one thing left to find out is how the Cougs will handle the pressure and if they play up to their potential. Will they play with a killer instinct, as a team? That is what I will be looking for.
