Children Are Horrified Of Santa
2008-12-16 15:15:30
I know I have a picture from my childhood somewhere back at home where I am bawling my eyes out, screaming on Santa's lap; most likely at the community center in Hammond, IL.
Today many "Scared Of Santa" pics have hit the net in light of the new book that has come out.
Pretty ingenious. Seriously, I had no idea taking pictures of kids freaked out by Santa could be so funny!
They say at least 1/2 of all children are horrified by jolly St. Nick, and after looking at the pictures it wouldn't surprise me. Look below and you'll see the pure look of horror in these kid's eyes. Doesn't it just remind of you the mall scene in "A Christmas Story!" Although they were so excited to see Santa, remember how Ralphy and his brother reacted after they actually saw the creepy man in a white beard??.... "Hooooo Hoo Hooooooo." Really is quite frightening if you haven't even learned your alphabet yet.
I can only dream of having a Christmas Greeting card this great for my children someday.
Here are some links with more "Scared of Santa" pics.

One For The History Books
2008-11-05 15:39:12
Sometimes I don't even know where to begin. But i'll give it a shot.
Who would have thought that the home of President that set African-Americans free, would also be home to the man that would become America's first African-American President?
It's not just that they are both from Illinois, the irony really seems to be endless.
When Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860, our country was far more torn than we could ever imagine. The country was literally falling apart.
Now Barack Obama has the opportunity to attempt to mend a nation that finds itself in what may be the largest economic downfall since the 1930's. And the only reason we rose from that was due to our entrance into WW II. Not even FDR, one of our most beloved presidents, could save us from that horrid economy.
Are these scary times? Yes.
Am I scared regarding the new Obama presidency? Yes.
But this IS a time for the history books. You can't help but be intrigued. You can't even say that having an African-American President 10 years ago was even fathomable. This IS a big deal. And I do not feel that, in the words of Ralph Nadar, Obama will turn into an "Uncle Tom," rather than an Uncle Sam.
Now I was a McCain supporter.
He is a war hero, has decades of experience in which he was NOT afraid to make huge decisions, and his economic policy didn't seem more like a welfare program.
However, the PEOPLE have spoken. Obama is who a majority of Americans want in office.
What we really need to understand is that we need to be a united people. We need to support and trust whomever is in office and hope and pray that they will do everything in their power to help the people of the United States of America, and succeed.
Obama is not a monarch, czar, king, emperor or savior. Supporters for the now former Illinois Senator must remember that. I feel some people expect the man to change the world. (If you know how the executive process works, you know that the President only has so much power.)
What we can hope for, is SOME change. In THIS country, for the better.
I'm proud to say that I am from central Illinois, an area where Lincoln grew up, and a long distance relative to "Honest Abe," ( I AM a pretty bad liar ). I'm sure you can also see the resemblance in the picture below. Only I will never be able to grow that sweet of a beard...
Anyway, back to my point... I am not saying, at all, that Barack is the next Abraham Lincoln. I'm simply saying that with Obama being elected last night, it really puts things into perspective.
To disagree is human. But the race is over.
There is no time to be lazy. No room to be greedy. It is time for Americans to come together and to try to help turn this thing around! One man cannot do this alone. It is going to take an effort from all of us.

UCLA Bruing More Talk Around L.A
2008-09-02 17:41:45
The Bruins have not looked great in practice the last few weeks. And when I say Bruins, I'm mainly talking about Kevin Craft.
The first half Kevin Craft looked like the guy I had predicted; 4 picks. Enough said. Even coach Neuheisel said last week after a practice that "Kevin took a couple steps back today."
I thought for sure Neuheisel would jerk him out of the game and try out a 4th stringer. Props to the coach for sticking with his guy. Now he only looks like a genius, or a genie (pretty sure Craft used all three wishes last night) depending on which way you would like to look at it. Norm Chow, miracle worker as well.
In hindsight, it doesn't really surprise me too much. Coach Neuheisel is a really nice guy, always a good interview. He is definitely someone you can see yourself getting a beer with, but also one you would take sentimental life advice from as well. Heck, maybe he should be a bartender! ... Na, football pays more. .....
It was great to see Tennesse go down though. And being one that hates dynasty (or football monopoly as it is in L.A) I have to find myself rooting against USC. At least this season..
So for now, go Bruins!

WCF: SoCal Winters, Chilly Or Warm?
Unlike Florida, many don't realize that the winter lows in L.A. get down into the upper 30's. However with the highs still being in the 60's, it's easy to get spoiled. In today's West Coast Fix Josh talks with USC students about the warm winter days and chilly winter nights.
